Luca Cefis joined the Jewish General Hospital in 2008 as a Project Manager/Research Coordinator. Over the last 8 years, he has used his more than 25 years of entrepreneurial experience to conduct research trials on new medications and medical devices for the Endocrinology Division. He has also organized and promoted conferences for the Division as well as obtaining critical funding and setting up an insulin pump centre.
In 2009, Luca Cefis founded Pronto Medical Technologies Incorporated with Dr. Mark Trifiro (Endocrinology Division Chief). The company was created with the objective of commercializing innovative medical devices and therapeutics that combine both medical and engineering technologies. The company is engaged in the development of rapid, accurate, highly sensitive biosensor systems focusing on glucose and bacteria biosensing and therapeutics. On February 1st, 2016, the company signed the Option to License US Utility Patent Application US13/943312.
Prior to joining the Jewish General Hospital, Mr. Cefis worked for 8 years and is to this day a partner at Alcemon Holdings Inc., a small boutique Real Estate management company that in its peak managed 6,000 plus residential doors, as well as 3 commercial sites, one industrial center, and developing and managing the first phase of a condominium project.
Mr. Cefis was also founding partner at Modes Benital Canada Ltd., the first to bring the multinational giant United Colors of Benetton to Canada.
Mr. Cefis holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from Emory University, and the theoretical part of the BOMI certificate. He is fluent in English, French, and Italian with basics in Spanish and German.
